If you really want to get closer to God, it will be a very hard and painful path. Not because God is mean, but because he’s gonna start asking you to commit to him, like in any relationship. If you want to be close with anyone, say a boy, you’ll work hard and spend all of your time trying to get to know them, right? You’ll lose sleep over them…you’ll wait for them, even argue and fight with them if you really care about them. The same thing goes with God! If you really want to get close to God, that means you have to give your time up to him. You have to let him into EVERY part of your life, even the bad parts. You HAVE to read your Bible (it’s his direct word!), and you HAVE to pray!
It becomes easier and easier once you try and reflect every single day on what Jesus did for you. Just imagine him, hanging on the cross, with YOUR sin on his shoulders, looking down at you with LOVE, saying “Father, forgive them, for they know not what they do…”
